Daniel Shaw is the parent of a child who was born with profound hearing loss and uses two Cochlear Implants. Previous to becoming an attorney, Daniel worked as an education advocate for a number of years assisting many families through the state of California. He is very passionate about this area of law and has made it his life mission to help empower other parents. Daniel speaks Spanish and is especially passionate about serving the Hispanic community.
In 2004, Daniel received his Bachelors of Arts in Politics from the University of California Santa Cruz. While attending UCSC, he was honored with a nomination for the Golden Slug Award by the Institute of Leadership Development and Social Responsibility for recognition of his outstanding efforts and contributions to the UCSC communities. Daniel later received a public service award for his volunteer work at Centro de Familia in appreciation for his selfless contribution of time and energy to help those who struggle with poverty, exclusion, and racism. During his final year of studies, he was one of ten students selected by UCSC to attend the Panetta Institute to discuss challenges of leadership in the 21st century.
In 2005 Daniel traveled to Guatemala where he studied Spanish and participated in various volunteer activities in the city of Antigua. He spent a year studying the Guatemalan language and culture. In addition Daniel spent time at various hospitals that served children with developmental disabilities.
In 2006, Daniel received special congressional recognition for completing the Community Building Institute Leadership Program through Vision Unida. From 2006 - 2010 Daniel attended Concord Law School while working full-time as a Service Coordinator for the Regional Center. His time at the Regional Center gives him a unique understanding of the “system of care” that has been designed to support families and children with special needs. In 2011, Daniel was admitted to the California State Bar Association.
